CONFERENCES
Faculty Lecture
Providence faculty lectures are held at 7 A.M. and 4 P.M. and are repeated on an 18-24 month schedule. Didactic lectures and interactive case conferences are teleconference using Zoom allowing participation from remote sites.

Resident Lecture
Every year, each resident is expected to present an original 45 minute lecture on a topic of their choosing. One resident presents each month, and slides are archived for future reference.

Telerad Physics
Residents participate in a weekly web conference presented by Dr. William Sensakovic of Telerad Physics (founded by Dr. Walter Huda) . This interactive course offers comprehensive preparation for the Core examination. This curriculum serves in addition to radiologic physics didactic content at Providence and MSU.

Non-Interpretive Skills
Rotating curriculum includes Health Care Economics and Healthcare Disparities / Cultural Competency in conjunction with RLI and APDR.

Simulation Lab
State-of-the-art simulation lab is available to Providence residents of all specialties. Monthly sessions are scheduled for faculty-supervised, hands-on simulation of interventional procedures including thoracentesis, paracentesis, vascular access, and ultrasound-guided biopsy. Live ultrasound scanning labs are also held.

Resident Meeting
Bimonthly group meeting with program director for feedback and discussion of any concerns.

Michigan State University
Providence residents attend full day didactic sessions at Michigan State University (MSU) in East Lansing, MI each Tuesday during the majority of the academic year (27 weeks). This comprehensive course presented by MSU academic faculty and invited visiting professors supplements the local didactics presented by Providence / MSU College of Human Medicine clinical faculty.

Interesting Case Conference
Residents present recent interesting cases as unknowns with discussion of imaging findings and differential diagnoses. All faculty are invited to attend in person or via Zoom.

Brant and Helms Reading Group
A weekly reading assignment and review of the assignment occurs at Monday morning conference. The 1st year residents present a topic from the highly regarded text book, with further discussion of salient details by senior residents and faculty. These sessions are coordinated with MSU curriculum and include quizzes.

Healthcare Economics
As part of a 4-year rotating curriculum in non-interpretive topics, our residents participate in the ACR/Radiology Leadership Institute Health Care Economics Milestones Program. This collaborative, interactive program led by national experts and local faculty moderators provides training in healthcare economics with emphasis on the ACGME milestone requirements.

Junior-Senior Conference
Senior residents present a topic or cases for the education of junior residents.

Peer Learning
Monthly review of recent cases which present "opportunities for learning."

Multidisciplinary Conferences
Residents present imaging findings at Multidisciplinary Tumor Boards / Working Groups, with direct supervision and support of faculty. Residents gain experience in the clinical context of oncologic experience and gain confidence and ability in succinct public speaking.

Pediatric Conference
Bi-weekly lecture given by Children's Hospital of Michigan pediatric faculty adds longitudinal pediatric experience. Earlier exposure for junior residents helps preparation for the R3 rotation and gives introduction for those considering the subspeciality.

Journal Club
A monthly journal club is hosted by faculty. Articles of contemporary interest are presented by individual residents and discussed “round table” style. The event is typically followed by social activities at a local pub (when feasible re: pandemic). This encourages informal discussion and contributes to a friendly, collegial atmosphere.

Healthcare Disparities and Cultural Competency
As part of a 4-year rotating curriculum in non-interpretive topics, residents participate in Healthcare Disparities and Cultural Competency curriculum designed by the APDR (Association of Program Directors in Radiology.) This radiology-specific curriculum includes journal club style discussion with Providence faculty.

Residency Research Review
Monthly roundtable discussion of ongoing research projects and ideas with brainstorming and problem solving.

VIR Conference
